Can the programs run off of CD-ROM?
SimBio Virtual Labs can be run off of CD-ROM. EcoBeaker 2.5 will not run off of CD-ROM and must be installed to the computer.
When does the software expire?
The expiration date for our software is September 15th. The newest version to be released in summer 2011 for the 2011/12 school year will have an expiration date of 9/15/2012.
Can I install the software on my own personal machine? I feel if I can play with the software, I would be in a better position to help my students if they have any questions on it.
Yes, it is fine for instructors using our software in a class to install it on their personal machines. If you don't have the installer already, please contact us for a copy.
Which Windows operating systems are supported?
SimBio Virtual Labs, SimBio Interactive Chapters, EcoBeaker 2.5 and Mitosis & Meiosis Demystified will run on Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Vista SP1.
Which Macintosh operating systems are supported?
Regarding software released for academic year 2011/12, SimBio Virtual Labs and Simbio Interactive Chapters require OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard or 10.5 Leopard, and require an Intel processor. EcoBeaker 2.5 and Mitosis and Meiosis requires OSX 10.4 Tiger or above, and will run on PowerPC or Intel processors.
Which Linux distributions are supported to run the programs?
Linux is not a supported operating system at this time. However through the use of a third party virtualization program such as VMWare, the suite of programs can be run under Windows virtually from within a Linux operating system.
Do I need additional programs in order to run SimBio Virtual labs?
Some labs and chapters include video and require Quicktime (available from Apple®) to run. In those cases, instructions will be provided as needed. Otherwise, all labs and chapters will run within the SimBio program you receive as part of your order.
